Welcome to Ruby Victoria Letterpress & printmaking

Here you will find photos of all my original hand carved linocut prints and letterpress printing.
A commercial printer by trade a printmaker by choice.
I specialize in original handcarved lino block prints with a bit of letterpress thrown in for good measure.
All printed on antique printing machines with that unmistakable bite into the paper that you can only get with letterpress printing

The work that I do is not created on a computer everything is hand drawn then hand carved out of lino then printed one impression at a time on my tabletop letterpress machine

I do not use polymer which limits me somewhat in regards to type but I love to use traditional methods in my printing that involve handset type and hand carved designs and I think this is what make my work totally Original and Unique to what other people are doing right now and it also meaning everything I make is an original work of art
I love what I do and love to share it with others that are interested

new stuff and a wedding

This week is was very lucky to become the owner of this possibly very old screenprinting unit it was given to me by and old friend and printing colleague its pretty neat and I have been wanting one of these for ages but I hadn't been able to find one, it was in pretty messy condition ink caked all over it but after a bit of TLC it has come up really nice I just need to replace the actual silk screen this week as the original mess was totally knackered, the really cool think about this unit is that it comes with it very own carry case with compartments for ink , a squeegee and anything else you might need for a print run :)

I also received along with the printing unit some never used letterpress type and some unopened foil for my foiling unit so I cant wait to start playing with that soon.

This past week has also seen me printing wedding stationery and a lovely big order of gift tags destined for
Campbell& Bradley Florists in Greenslopes Queensland so I have been kept pretty busy :)

ready to be posted off to Campbell & Bradley Florists QLD

Off to Qld this week :)

Lastly here is the wedding stationery that I have just finished for the lovely Whitney and her fiance Stephen.

wedding stationery with custom linocut stamp

I have decided to include the custom linocut in the package as a special memento of their special day.
The linocut is backed up onto a Tasmanian black wood  block great for display purposes :)

Leftovers IV

finished Linocut prints

lino cut inked up and read to be printed

It's on again the Wingtip press leftovers mini print exchange and exhibition
and this year I have finally gotten my act together and printed my very own mini print to send to Idaho to be included :) I am very excited as in return for my 14 prints that I send I will be sent in return 12 prints from 12 other artists
I love getting this kind of mail :)

all dried and covered with protective acid free velum read for packing
all packed and ready to be posted to Idaho :)

The history of Leftovers:
Leftovers began in 2009 as a result of finding too many scraps of leftover printing papers jamming our flatfiles. We put out a call to artists to use those scraps to create an edition of prints no larger than 5" x 7" and receive a random dozen prints in
return.  We have grown from an initial 60 participants to 155 in 2012.  Artists now produce 14 prints, receive 12 in return. Of the two remaining prints, one is used for exhibitions and the second is featured in a Silent Auction to raise funds for Hunger
This popular portfolio has become international in scope - not only with international printmakers but with exhibitions in the US, Wales and New Zealand. This year's 2013 Leftovers IV portfolio has been invited to Australia!  They hope to continue the exhibition schedule to include Wharepuke Gallery in New Zealand and Swansea Print Workshop in Wales and welcome the opportunity for additional exhibitions so if you are a gallery and would like to support this then please follow the link below they will be very happy to hear from you
Relief.  Follow the Leftovers blog at: http://leftoversanyone.blogspot.com/

Tasmania by Hand

'Tasmania By Hand' is a new project bringing a fresh and stylish selection of talented Tasmanian artists and makers to the rest of Australia. Each market we attend will have different featured artists/makers from a variety of mediums from all over Tasmania.
I am thrilled to announce that Ruby Victoria letterpress has been selected to be one of the lucky Tasmania Makers to be represented at the December Finders Keepers in  Sydney at The Carriage works just in time for Christmas YAY
I would like to say a big thank you to Maya and Sam of Hideyo Designs for being the ones organised enough to come up with this concept and to see it through :) you guys Rock!
