Welcome to Ruby Victoria Letterpress & printmaking

Here you will find photos of all my original hand carved linocut prints and letterpress printing.
A commercial printer by trade a printmaker by choice.
I specialize in original handcarved lino block prints with a bit of letterpress thrown in for good measure.
All printed on antique printing machines with that unmistakable bite into the paper that you can only get with letterpress printing

The work that I do is not created on a computer everything is hand drawn then hand carved out of lino then printed one impression at a time on my tabletop letterpress machine

I do not use polymer which limits me somewhat in regards to type but I love to use traditional methods in my printing that involve handset type and hand carved designs and I think this is what make my work totally Original and Unique to what other people are doing right now and it also meaning everything I make is an original work of art
I love what I do and love to share it with others that are interested

10 Days on the Island 2012 cancelled for Opera Australia

I was just looking at my facebook and came across a post about 10 days on the Island being cancelled due to a visit from the Australian opera company http://tasmaniantimes.com/index.php?/weblog/article/oz-opera-visit-cancels-ten-days-on-the-island/

Ten Days on the Island will be cancelled in 2012, due to terms and conditions for a five-day Australian Opera tour organised by the Sydney-based Australian Council for the Arts. The AO will be performing two nights in Hobart and one in Launceston, with the program not being decided until late 2011 by managers and executives in Sydney. Public relations for the AO point out that this tour, the biggest in the State’s history, will ‘interpolate Tasmania on the world’s cultural cosmos’, and draw hundreds of thousands of cultural ‘guests’ to the Isle.
Furthermore, in the fortnight before or in the week after the AO’s tour, no local TV or radio station may broadcast any opera-related material, nor can local artistic, cultural or entertainment activities can take place. This means, for example, that no cinemas in Hobart and Launceston, or within an 80km radius of each city, can operate during the exclusion period.

now when I read this I really thought it was a joke but I am afraid it is serious .

  1. they have to be kidding! that's ridiculous!
And what do they think the thousands of cultural guests to the Island are going to do when they're not at the opera?

  2. i guess they are thinking that if they shut everything else down that everyone will just bite the bullet and attend the opera, I dont think this line of think is going to work in Tassie the locals a likely to dig their heels in and the visitors to the state that are NOT here for the Opera will just think Tassie is a hole where nothing happens and never come back or recommend Tassie to their friends as a fantastic destination to visit.

  3. That's just weird.. never heard of such a thing happening anywhere else... I mean, the British National Opera company perform all over the world and never demand such restrictions as far as I know ... please tell me it's April 1st!
