Welcome to Ruby Victoria Letterpress & printmaking

Here you will find photos of all my original hand carved linocut prints and letterpress printing.
A commercial printer by trade a printmaker by choice.
I specialize in original handcarved lino block prints with a bit of letterpress thrown in for good measure.
All printed on antique printing machines with that unmistakable bite into the paper that you can only get with letterpress printing

The work that I do is not created on a computer everything is hand drawn then hand carved out of lino then printed one impression at a time on my tabletop letterpress machine

I do not use polymer which limits me somewhat in regards to type but I love to use traditional methods in my printing that involve handset type and hand carved designs and I think this is what make my work totally Original and Unique to what other people are doing right now and it also meaning everything I make is an original work of art
I love what I do and love to share it with others that are interested

Today in the Badalassi household

What a surprise I am printing again!
geez I need to get a life

Get a load of the lovely drying racks I borrowed from a secret location
that I cannot disclose, I will buy a set of these soon when I become a bit more cashed up
as these are not cheap damn it !

The next photo is for all you art/craft people that don't have a pristine white, tidy, lick the floor clean work area . Don't get me wrong I would love a space like that but in reality I would never be able to maintain that sort of order . I really must say that this is pretty bad for me, I don't usually have stuff all over the floor just all over the table hehe

new work finally emerging

At long last I finally found a little bit of time after the school holiday madness to sit and do a bit of drawing for my upcoming exhibition at Cube Art and Design this November, I know I am leaving it a bit late but I have realised I do most of my best work when I am seriously under pressure.

Flame Robin - linocut almost ready to be carved out

It will only be a small show as cube is a little space and I will be sharing it with local ceramicist and friend Julie Hoddy - Magoolie Designs, who also live in Blackmans Bay.

Blue Wren - Linocut block almost ready to be carved out

The exhibition will consist of my new works based on photography of native Tasmania Birds by Nickolay Tilcheff who kindly allowed me to use his stunning photography as reference material for my linocut prints, I will also be displaying my letterpress work I have been making over the past 18 months.
Julie will be exhibition her beautiful porcelain rang of tea light candle holders, drink coaster, jewelery pieces and hopefully her stunning french Bistro range of dining ware.

I will post the dates of the exhibition as it gets a little closer and I hope you all can come along and have a look at some lovely art work and say hello

little black crow

Take a look what I bought myself today.
I treated myself an original art work by friend and fellow artist Grace Garton.
Well what can I say about Grace, I think this very creative woman is just wonderful and I am so proud to be able to call her friend .
I first met Grace and her man Pig at one of the first markets I ever attended in Hobart as Ruby Victoria letterpress but before that I would admire Graces sweet & extremely beautiful made bunnys and elephants in a little shop in the middle of Hobart where we both had our work for sale .

Right from the start we became friends and my admiration of her work had continued to grow as she has created more and more different kinds of wonderful thing.
I have particularly fallen in love with her collage paintings.she is a marvel truely the amount of work that goes in to these works is truely breath taking and the end product is even more so, that I decided purchase my very first Grace Garton original today and I am thrilled & I cant help but think I have gotten in just at the right time with her work selling like hot cakes and galleries throughout Australia clambering to hang her works

please check grace out at her etsy and her blog

Ruby Victoria & Mrs Shepherd

Here are some photos of the little books that myself and Mrs Shepherd collaborated on.

Naomie and I met by chance on Facebook and struck up a friendship after realizing that we has a whopping amount of things in common which is pretty rare for me.
After not too much time we had decided it would be fun to do a little book with some of Naomies illustration turned into a linocuts then combined with letterpress type and printed by me on my little press.

Once printed the covers and pages were sent off to Naomie to bind and add some more of her lovely illustrations in them

There are only 10 of them in existence and each one is different to the next .
