Welcome to Ruby Victoria Letterpress & printmaking

Here you will find photos of all my original hand carved linocut prints and letterpress printing.
A commercial printer by trade a printmaker by choice.
I specialize in original handcarved lino block prints with a bit of letterpress thrown in for good measure.
All printed on antique printing machines with that unmistakable bite into the paper that you can only get with letterpress printing

The work that I do is not created on a computer everything is hand drawn then hand carved out of lino then printed one impression at a time on my tabletop letterpress machine

I do not use polymer which limits me somewhat in regards to type but I love to use traditional methods in my printing that involve handset type and hand carved designs and I think this is what make my work totally Original and Unique to what other people are doing right now and it also meaning everything I make is an original work of art
I love what I do and love to share it with others that are interested

so much for printing

Well so much for printing yesterday after dropping ruby off to school yesterday I decided to go in an do a few things in town after dropping Allan off to work, I had a couple of hours to kill until I had to go back and pick Allan up again.
so I thought I'd go looking around the tip shops
Look what I found this darling little tin toy printing machine made in England

I don't think it is functional but it is still very cute
I think and for only $4.00 I couldn't leave it there.

I also found this very retro picnic set to put in the caravan

I have to admit it Isn't in my favorite colour combination's but very handy
even still and pretty cheap for $15.00.

festa Italia

After the markets on the weekend we decided to head down to the Italian festival in North Hobart on Sunday ,load of people food and entertainment and displays Allan particularly liked the Ferrari's and the handmade guitars.

Ohh Ferrari's

Ah Italian Motorbikes

What's and Italian festival without Coffee

Handmade Guitars

My Favorite part of the Festival was the
hilarious Mamma Rosa!

what a card this woman is, She's a cook. She's a storyteller.
She's a singer. She's a legend.
And she's a really funny lady..we saw her doing a pasta making demo man this woman can knead dough ! all while dancing.
Honestly you have to see her to believe her with her mono brow, mustache, apron and dry sense of humor she was a hit and even more amazing she is a local and available for party and functions she cooks pasta and entertains at the same time what a woman
you can book her here

Oh course Allan gets the last say in his new T-shirt
It is Allan to a T !

Uppercase Arrived today YAY!

Uppercase magazine, for the creative and curious

My Copy of Uppercase arrived today with my free sample of letterpress goodness
my sample was printed by Mpress studio from California USA

Charlotte Rivers , the author of the Little Book of Letterpress and other arts and graphic design books, produced this A-Z or letterpress print for the issue and what a lovely job she has done too

If you are interested in learning a little more about letterpress and the people that work in this medium I suggest you grab a copy of this issue of Uppercase, it is a great starting point.

If you do buy a copy and you are one of the people that receive my card as your free sample,
I hope you like it :)

A very welcome visitor

We were very happy to welcome our friend and international concert pianist Rhodri Clarke to our home this morning .

Allan & Rhodri : no one get out of this house without having consumed
good coffee before hand

We first met and heard Rhodri play a couple of years ago at the home Hill winery in the huon Valley and where totally blown away by his passionate playing.

Allan had kept in touch with Rhodri and share with him his compositions and Rhodri showed some interest in playing Allan pieces.

going over compositions

Now that Rhodri is back in Tasmania after a year or 2 in the Netherlands and living close by he dropped in for a talk a coffee and a bit of a workshop .

Allan was terribly proud to hear his pieces played by a concert pianist and have him really love the music he has been composing.

Rhodri has ask Allan for his permission to play some of his pieces at up coming concerts.

Thrilled is not the word to describe Allan at the moment :)
