Printing madness and mess in my home !

Not sure if I should sell these as drink coasters or make them into tags I would love to hear your ideas on this

I can almost hear you all gasp in horror at the mess on my work table, and saying out loud" how on earth does that girl work in a place like that"? hehehe
I wonder that very same thing but I just seem to manage even though losing stuff is a pretty regular thing but I always seem to get the work out all tidy and packaged nicely.
here are some photos of what I have been up to today in preparations for Niche in Launceston on Friday and Saturday, and Morilla's shopping experience "What women want" on sunday

Please don't let me be misunderstood exhibition

This is the plate I will be printing for the "don't make me feel so misunderstood" exibition
The first photo show the plate the printing way around and the other is how it will look hen it is printed .
I will be printing this one totally by hand using a roller and a hand baren and will be printed on a lovely light Japanese rice paper and it will only be and edition of 25 , works will all be framedat the exhibition but these prints will also be avaible for purchase unframed.
I will post more detail at the end of the week on dates, times and gallery Location.

The 1st Niche market of 2010

Yes we are going to be there yipee!

The funny thing is I was thinking I was going to be all alone up North without all my regular Market buddies but BOY was I wrong! after looking at the list of stall holder it looks as though the others have had the same idea as me and are going to be at Niche as well.

HOOORAY !

Us Hobartian are a hardy bunch and will travel anywhere for a great market experience .

Just because I can

Ruby adores anything creative , justput paper and paint infront of her and she is happy,

she usually paints or draws when I am printing

Ruby Has grown so much in the past couple of months it has been an amazing journey watching her learn all the little things that most of us take for granted and seeing the pure joy on her face when she achieves something !

All part of the process

It never fails to surprise me when I amat a market and people ask me,"so where to you buy the stamps from", or I get a disbelieving "you do the drawing , carvings and printing" ?
I use to get a bit upset about this but it doesn't bother me now as I understand if you are not into printmaking you might not know the steps that you might go through to get to a final product.
So I thought I would post some new photo of some new prints that I have been working on today.

Narelle x Most of my linocuts start their lives as a drawing in my little sketcb book but some do get drawn straight on to the block of lino I really need to get into the habit of drawing in my sketch book though so that I have a record of the original drawings .
The next step is to transfere the drawing to the lino block using tracing paper I then draw over the image with a premanent marker as not to loose the image as I carve it out.

Once I have started carving my design I periodically do rubbings to see how it is all looking and I can make adjustments as I go in a way, of course I can't change what has already been carved but I can envisage what will happen next.
So basically this is how I make a lino print the last step is to print either using my little table top press or by using a baron which is a small disc shaped pad that you rub on the back of the paper to transfere the image from the block to the paper

career color-test

2 market in 1 weekend

I must be completely bonkers but I have got two markets this weekend and they both are from past experience very busy !
I was meant to be only at The Market on Sunday but I got a phone call tonight saying that someone had pulled out at the last minute and that there was an outside stall available at The Barn market at Rosny if I wanted it! after much thinking and considering family I decided to take it up.
I really like The Barn market and I really like being outside in the gazebo the last market I did was outside and it was fantastic with all the fresh air and sunshine, so my kids and I will be up at the crack of dawn and off to market first thing tomorrow morning.



The other Market on Sunday is The Market at the Masonic Hall in Sandy bay road,
I am really excited about being back at this Market, I haven't had a stall there since the Christmas market last December and to be back on their 1st Birthday is really something special. To mark the occassion they will be opening up the upstairs rooms to fit more stall holders for you to check out and buy lovely things from and they will be having a lucky door prize of items dontated by stall holders there that day, now that really is a reason to come along and celebrate.

So if you love Handmade and Markets you have your weekend well and truely filled up if you decide to check these two fantastic markets out .

collecting Art

In recent months I have become a bit of a collector of art, mostly in the form of original prints but I lashed out the other day and bought myself a beautiful mirror off Arkmetal and as soon as I spotted this beautiful object at a recent market I knew I had to have it . .
These guys had their first market at the Eastside Makers market last weekend,thet didnt seem to sure sure about how popular they would be with the punters, but of course they were a hit and they had a fantastic day at the market.
I think these guys are going to kept very busy from now on designing and making things , they have an enthusiasm for what they do that is infectious and fun and it comes out in their work.

Cube Art & design official representatives of Narelle Badalassi's Ruby Victoria letterpress & Printmaking

Fantastic news everyone I have finally scored myself an official rep for my art work and letterpress stationery CUBE Art & Design at Shop8, Salamanca Art Centre, Salamanca place hobart.

I am so thrill to be at Cube and what a fantastic spot to have a Gallery.
Jemima & I have been talking for a while about having a show of my work in her Gallery and we finally worked out and settled on a date in November this year.

The exhibition will consist of my framed & unframed original linocut prints and various pieces of letterpress stationery, so I am thinking I am going to be kinda busy the next couple of months getting ready for the show.

So now I can tick dream number 2 off my list of places to exhibit my work, the first was The Mill Gallery in Launceston and the second was Salamanca and I have achived both this year all a bit of a whirlwind but I love it.
